This year marked the 11th Annual Silver State Nitro Challenge in Las Vegas, NV. Like in years past the weather was always changing. With very windy conditions and temperatures up and down proved to be a big challenge for the drivers all week long.
A new race format was constructed this year by race director Jason Ashton for the Invitational Class. This took the top 50 drivers from last years IFMAR 1/8 Scale Nitro Off-Road World Championships. Then stacking each heat to make the racing as fair as possible.
The race format consisted of 3 qualifying heats with all of them counting. The first qualifier was 7-minutes, the second qualifier was 10-minutes, and the third and final qualifier was 15-minutes. After the 3 qualifiers were ran, each heat would have the top 3 drivers with the lowest point totals advance straight to the main event. Then the lower mains would be ran taking the top 2 drivers to bump into the next main.
Team Orion Factory Driver Jared Tebo was on fire in qualifying winning both heats for Invitational buggy and truggy the first day. The second day would only consist of the 15-minute qualifier. Tebo went on to finish 2nd in both buggy and truggy to wrap up the overall TQ in both classes!
At the start of the tone for the 30-minute Invitational Buggy main event, Jared Tebo got a great launch off the starting line with his Team Orion powered Kyosho MP9. Tebo started off with a fast pace with Ryan Maifield close behind. After the first round of pit stops Tebo was still in the lead but now Team Orion/Kyosho teammate Cody King was in 2nd. Tebo and King freight trained around the track separating themselves from the field. After the second round of stops Tebo was still leading but now Adam Drake and Billy Fischer were battling it out for the second position. As Tebo came in for his final fuel stop, Billy Fischer was right behind him. Team Orion/Kyosho America Team Manager Joe Pillars provided Tebo with lightning fast pit stops getting him out in front of Fischer for the last 7 minutes of the race. Tebo stayed calm and drove perfect not looking back to take the win!
Tebo also finished a very respectable 2nd overall in the Invitational Truggy class making it a great weekend.
