Anyway about the 306R4. As you can see in the picture, it carries a “Q” registration plate. That means that it was basically a totally custom built car. Used to crop up on lots of Escorts I remember. And Renault 5’s. Normally meant that the owner had totally replaced the engine with one of another manufacturer or one that wasn’t offered by the manufacturer in that range. And as you said, that 306R4 had a mid mounted engine, and if memory serves me right it was actually a 3500cc engine out of the mighty Metro 6R4. It was originally built for the British Rally Championship by a guy named Andy Burton. I think! Now however it is competing in the 2004 British Rallycross championship! Where it should do well, as the Metro 6R4 was very successful along with the Ford RS200 when they got banned from the World Rally scene. Hence the Group B13 bit!!
Mi pare di capire che montasse un motore di Mg Metro da 3500cc... ma questa macchina montava un cosworth?
Cmq marco anche a me non fanno impazzire stiliticamente, ma mi danno tanto l'idea della passione: non ci vedo dietro il dottore o l'avvocato o peggio il loro figliolo belli pieni di soldi che si comprano una WRC giusto per lo sfizio di provare anche se sono dei femi totali. Mi dà l'idea di uno che ci capisce che si mette li e smonta a rimonta finchè non ottiene qualcosa di unico...... ricordo di aver letto un articolo sugli esordi di Gigi Galli che, per iniziare a correre su neve e ghiaccio a Livigno si era autocostruito una Fiat Uno a trazione integrale con 4 ruote sterzanti e motore Toyota.
In ogni caso questo Andy Burton ha corso nel'95 con una non meglio specificata Alfa Ferrari... non si trova nulla su questa però...
